OPEN HOUSE TIPS FOR THOSE SELLING ON THEIR OWN

Schedule your open house at least one week in advance

  • Check newspapers for advertising deadlines
  • Prepare a brochure and have copies made
  • Purchase "Open House" directional signs

On the day of your open house

  • Place directional signs on corners three or four blocks from your house and in front of the house.
  • Leave plenty of space for visitors to parkchairs
  • Remove all debris from yard; be sure walkways and driveways are clear
  • Make sure the front porch and front door sparkle
  • Turn on all your lights, open draperies
  • If your closets are very organized, leave some of the closet doors ajar
  • Have extra clean bathrooms and close all toilet lids
  • De-clutter
  • Don't leave valuables out where people can see them
  • Play soft music
  • Make sure pets are caged or out of the house
  • Consider a guest registration book for visitors to sign
